What would happen if your transmitting equipment developed a fault in the middle of the night? Would you be able to rapidly diagnose and eliminate a problem during an off-air emergency? Test your preparedness by taking our free web-based tests.
In recent years, Thomson has redefined the standard of customer support in the television transmission industry by offering unprecedented levels of technical support documentation on this website. Now, Thomson is proud to announce the latest concept in web-based customer service: the Thomson Academy series of self-administered tests. These tests allow Thomson customers to determine their level of familiarity with Thomson-brand transmitting and MPEG processing equipment. The tests are based on information found in Thomson equipment manuals, in Thomson service bulletins ( elsewhere on this site ) , or general items of common knowledge that qualified technicians should know.

Upon completion of a test, the answers are scored and a grade is immediately returned to the test taker. This score is entirely private and is not recorded by Thomson. The tests may be taken repeatedly in an attempt to improve the score received.

As a Thomson customer, a missed question is an indication to you that you may need to do more reading of the Thomson manuals and service bulletins to "bone up" on your skills.

The tests come in five levels of difficulty:

  1. Operator - general knowledge for person operating, but not maintaining, equipment.
  2. Rookie Technician - starter level for a new assistant engineer.
  3. Engineer - basic level for persons maintaining equipment.
  4. Chief Engineer - similar to level 3, but with more subtle questions for persons with more background experience.
  5. Iron Man - most difficult level with crushing questions from our in-house panel of experts. Assumes extensive technical knowledge beyond Thomson-supplied documentation.
